Snow Cancels Thursday Broadcast.....

Unfortunately, due to the third consecutive snow day for students in Chesterfield County Public Schools, the girls basketball game between L.C. Bird and Monacan will not take place Thursday evening, so our HCS Media Network live coverage of the event, too, is off.

When the game is rescheduled, we will see if our broadcast can, too be rescheduled. We hope to do so, but there are lots of variables involved.  We'll keep you posted.

Stay safe on the roads and stay with us on Twitter, @cfieldsports again Thursday to see if school resumes on Friday!  Our coverage on Twitter includes both public AND private schools.....

SATURDAY WRAP: Cosby, LC Bird Girls Win, Matoaca Wrestling Takes Title!

Highlights from a BUSY Saturday!

COSBY STAYS UNBEATEN: The Cosby Titans are 13-0, surviving an incredible Princess Anne second half comeback to force overtime, as Dorothy Adomako's record performance thrust the Titans past the Cavaliers, 80-77 in the 2014 Classic at Highland Springs High School. The Titans surged in the second quarter, taking a 37-28 halftime lead.

That lead increased to as much as 16 at 59-43 with 1:09 left in the third quarter before Princess Anne, already playing full-court pressure defense, turned up the heat, withering the Cosby offense, setting off a jaw-dropping comeback.

In 4:42, the Cavaliers outscored Cosby 14-4, cutting the lead to 65-60. Gadiva Hubbard hit two of her six three-points down this stretch, Justice Swango adding another. Cosby's lead was 69-65 with 1:14 to go. The Cavs cut it to one, then Hubbard was fouled shooting a trey with :35.8 left. Three free throws later, Princess Anne led 71-69.

Adomako saved the day, driving down the left side to the basket for the tying two. The Titans got the ball back just before the buzzer, but couldn't convert.

The Cavs took a lead in OT, and had the ball with a chance to take a two-possession lead. But the Cavs, who had to be exhausted after 34 minutes of 94 foot basketball, began to go cold from the outside. Cosby took advantage. A Skye Jefferson layup retook the lead for the Titans at 76-75 at :50 to go, but Princess Anne answered. Adomako is fouled going to the line at :34.9 left and drains two free throws. After a Cavalier miss, Adomako is fouled again, and she scores points #42 and #43 with 12 seconds left.

Two Cavalier tries from three-point land were short, and Princess Anne took the first loss of the season, falling to 13-1. Tyra Whitehead added 17, Jocelyn Jones 15 for the 13-0 Titans, who have a nine-day break until visiting Huguenot January 27th.

MATOACA WRESTLING VICTORIOUS IN THE MOUNTAINS: The long trip to Christiansburg was well worth it for the Matoaca Warriors, who win the Big Blue Invitational at Christiansburg High School, scoring 210 points. Christiansburg took second at 196.5, St. Christopher's 3rd at 188.

Individual champions included Dylan Schuster at 113 pounds, Neal Richards at 145 pounds, and Anthony Helm in the heavyweight class. But just as importantly was three consolation final victories to ensure 3rd place finishes by three other wrestlers: Michael Hundley at 120, Adam Wilmer at 126, and Kyle Gordon at 132 pounds.

This event, and victory, will serve the Warriors well as Conference 12, and 5A South Region Tournaments loom. The Warriors host Conference 12 action February 8th while the 5A South Region tourney is February 14-15 at Clover Hill.

THE COLE SHOW: Taja Cole took Thomas Edison (Alexandria) for a ride, pouring in 31 points to lead the Skyhawks to a 68-63 win at the 2014 Classic at Highland Springs.

L.C. Bird was hot, shooting 51 percent from the field, and 15-of-19 from the line, breaking a halftime tie by building the five-point lead after three quarters and spending the final 8:00 warding off Edison, who falls to 9-3. Not to be overlooked, Quenswayla Story, who had another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

PHOTO GALLERY: L.C. Bird 69, Cosby 60

On the HCS Media Network Game of the Week, L.C. Bird used a four-point burst with two steals, a dunk and a layup in 12 seconds in the final two minutes to finally break open a periliously close game, allowing the Skyhawks to move to 8-2 with a 69-60 win.

Thomas Taylor's steal on full-court pressure and subsequent dunk took Bird to a 64-59 lead. The inbounds pass from Cosby went straight to Kenny Williams, who took it and laid it in for two more. Cosby never threatened again as the homestanding Titans fell to 6-4, losers of two straight.

Now, a look back at the action tonight!  And remember, our NEXT HCS Media Network LIVE broadcast involving Chesterfield is next Saturday, January 18th at the StatVA Classic at Highland Springs High School, a girls hoops showdown as #1 Cosby battles Princess Anne, airtime 6pm ET!
