He's staying home.
Standout L.C. Bird basketball player Kenny Williams, who has spent the summer impressing college coaches in tournament play, announced on Twitter Wednesday that he will commit to Shaka Smart and the VCU Rams.
Williams, who led the Skyhawks to the verge of the Group 5A State Tournament last year, falling by a point to eventual state runner-up Henrico in the 5A South Region Semifinals, had been courted by the likes of North Carolina, 2013 national runner-up Michigan, coached by former University of Richmond head John Belein, and Georgetown.
Williams told Scout.com the opportunity to stay close to home loomed large in his final decision. He is Smart's first committed recruit from the Class of 2015, and is rated as a top 100 guard by ESPN.
