FOOTBALL: Seasons End For Skyhawks, Lancers

Shedrick McCall (pictured below) rushed for 152 yards, but was held to 27 yards in the second half while L.C. Bird lost three fumbles after halftime as Highland Springs defeated the Skyhawks for the first time in playoff action in ten years Saturday, 34-20 in the 5A South Region Semifinal at Kreiter Stadium.

Highland Springs quarterback Juwan Carter accounted for four of the Springers' five touchdowns, as L.C. Bird was held to a late second half touchdown pass from Marcus Banks to Pinky Wiley when the game's outcome was already no longer in doubt. L.C. Bird finishes the season at 11-2.

Meanwhile, Colonial Forge built an early lead, and Manchester's latest attempt at a thrilling fourth quarter comeback fell short as the Eagles eliminated the Lancers in 6A South Region Semifinal action Saturday 27-19. An 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Frank Boyd in the fourth quarter was not enough, as Manchester sees its season end also with an 11-2 record.
