Nicely Named Interim Coach At L.C. Bird

RVA Sports Network confirms that L.C. Bird High School has decided to hire longtime assistant varsity football coach Tony Nicely as their interim head coach for the 2017 season, replacing David Bedwell, who has stepped up to become Activities Director.

Outgoing Activities Director Stephen D'Adamo told RVASN the following:

"With the timing of Bedwell's hire, we have decided to go with....Nicely as our interim head coach for this next school year."

D'Adamo said a seamless transition for the current team was a high priority, while, at the same time, finding the best way to ensure that an application, interview and hiring process would best serve both applicants and the student-athletes.

"At the end of the season, we will open up the position again," D'Adamo said.

Bedwell served as head coach for seventeen seasons, leading the Skyhawks to three straight state championships, the Group AAA Division 5 title in 2012, and the 5A State Championship in both 2013 and 2014.
